My Teaching Philosophy
Teaching is about empowering and nurturing the very best in everyone. I have a holistic teaching approach that builds on our natural ability to learn.
Education goes beyond just the development of a student's factual knowledge — it is the key to unlock anyone's potential. As teachers we must support students' positive identity development, build their confidence and self-esteem, and provide opportunities for students to grow beyond their existing capabilities.
When we teach in a way that strengthens and empowers our student's voices, and from a place of love and compassion within our hearts, we automatically create spaces, whether virtually or in the physical world, where there is mutual respect; where people strive to be their very personal best. In this environment, both students and teachers mutually mutually benefit by having open and honest conversations that make learning relevant and meaningful.
I have had the honor of being a guide on a very small part of my students' journeys. During the short amount of time that I have with my students, I share my passion for what I do, as well as my love for each of them, and for humanity in general. After all, isn't this what we are here, for? To learn our life's purpose, and to strive to be more human?
Teaching gives us opportunities to change the world in positive ways by opening spaces for us to learn more about the world, ourselves, and each other.

Learning Theorist In Love With HumanityI am the CEO and Founder of Qi Learning Research Group and the STEAM Cafe. After receiving my Ph.D., I came to the realization that my life's purpose was to change the world by changing how people view and do education. Even though I knew nothing about business at the time, I started Qi Learning as a way to fulfill my purpose. I started with educating people on how to teach science, because our world needs a scientifically literate society in order to evolve beyond our current capabilities.

I called Yen to ask her to look over a presentation I was asked to give regarding the progress of a course. What I got was much more than a complete revamp of my presentation, it was a complete revamp of my outlook. Using theoretical frameworks, she gave the presentation life and heart. She rekindled my enthusiasm as an educator to be able to advocate for myself and my students. Thank you!
